From its beauty to the fact that the company claims that this car is the most technologically advanced car of its class, the new 2018 Audi a8 has set a claim that will leave the likes of Mercedes, BMW, and others in wonder. The new Audi A8 comes packed with punches of the best in the latest technology. The highest of these technologies offered by the new A8 is its claim of being the first sedan to have a “level 3 autonomous driving” which allows the driver to take his eyes off the road anytime while in the A8.

The new 2018 Audi A8 is a lot more sophisticated than its boxy predecessor, but its technological prowess isn’t obvious in its passive exterior design. On initial contact, your eyes will quickly be drawn to the massive front grille, which is wider than the ones on the predecessor. The rear end, on the other hand, is fitted with a horizontal light bar that looks stunning even when seen from afar. The new A8’s headlights are equally fascinating with the uplevel LED headlight system which keeps the bright on, but automatically spares traffic ahead and oncoming cars. Choose the most expensive system, and you get an additional long-distance light powered by laser beams. You don’t see the actual laser beams but inside the enclosed headlamp system they create an ultra-bright beam that can reach far distances.

The new A8 offers an all-wheel steering system (optional) which improves the car performance. An all-wheel steering system makes the car much more stable during high-speed lane changes when the rear wheels turn in the same direction as the front wheels. At low speeds, however, they turn in the opposite direction, thus reducing the turning circle to a minimum level.

Also, drivers of the new A8 will get a little bit of relief in tiring stop-and-go traffic thanks to Audi’s new AI traffic jam pilot. It works just like every other semi-autonomous system in which it can handle the acceleration and braking in difficult and slow-moving traffic up to a reported speed of about 37 mph. However, keep in mind that this feature is only available below that speed limit and only when there is an obstacle between your road and the traffic moving in the opposite direction. This system also includes an AI remote parking system that claims to offer what is seen on Tesla’s automatic garage parking feature. Its operation doesn’t require the driver to be inside the and via a smartphone app, it can be monitored through the 360 cameras cleverly hidden on the body.

Obviously, the new A8 has an evolutionary cabin in comparison to the predecessor. The massive button panels from the previous A8 have been replaced by a new touchscreen display that matches the new 10.1-inch infotainment display that is mounted on the dashboard which is a first for an Audi over recent years. The center console is just as wide but features sharper trim on the edges while the gear shifter has been moved forward a bit. The storage cabinet to the right of the shifter and the rear-sitting cup holders also remain as part of the new cabin. The dashboard looks as if its lowered, just like in the previous A8. Maybe it’s Audi’s new way of doing things (who knows).

The seats on the latest A8 got a new design and are fairly supportive for a sedan of this size, while the door trim panels got a makeover also. Though still quite similar to the previous A8, the armrest is curved a little more in the middle, providing better access to the cubby below. The seats on the A8 are perforated to provide heating and ventilation, while there’s an upgrade option with a “relaxation seat” that allows for four different adjustment settings and a footrest for those who like to be chauffeured around in ultimate comfort. Rear seat passengers have access to their own remote, which mounted to the rear center console that is removable. It allows them to control things like the ambient lighting, reading lights, and also the seat massage functions. They are also able to make private phone calls through a separate operating unit.

As far as user input is concerned, the onboard infotainment systems allow for input via a touchpad up front as well as voice control. Standard features also are seen on the new A8 include 19-inch alloy wheels, a Bose premium audio system, four-zone climate control, Audi’s MMI system with navigation, keyless entry/start, Bluetooth connectivity, Audi Drive Select, and heated front seats. The front seat compartment and the rear seat compartment have different controls for the air conditioner system.

The 2018 Audi A8 offers a V-6 and V-8 engines and also a supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that offers 333 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque in the A8 L 3.0T and a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 with massive 450 hp and 444 lb-ft in the A8 L 4.0T. If you choose the S8 Plus option, the 4.0T engine will be upgraded to 605 hp and 517 lb-ft. All the engines are paired basically with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The New A8 comes in an all-wheel-drive configuration.
