Volkswagen is a name that has long been associated with durability and reliability in the automobile industry. The dates back to the days of the beetle and the Passat and now to the new era where big SUVs rule the automobile. The new 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is the company’s answer to the question “does size matter?”. The Tiguan is a large sized SUV capable of sitting up to 7 passengers and this is Volkswagen’s way of competing in an already competitive market.
The 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan is far roomier than its predecessor and is also loaded with cutting-edge technology. The new Tiguan offers one of the smoothest rides you can get from any vehicle of its size owing to its excellent steering and pedal response, which are what you would expect from the company by the way. The car comes with a mechanical center differential and electronic differential locks. This means that the Tiguan’s available 4Motion all-wheel-drive system can transfer power front to back and from side to side. The system also includes a host of driver-selectable modes, including On-Road, Off-Road, Snow, and Custom Off-Road. Combined with its 7.9 inches ground clearance and a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system, a Tiguan should deliver as much off-road capability as most cars in the segment.
The new Tiguan is available in four trims, the S, SE, SEL and the SEL Premium.
Like I said before, they answered the question “does size matter?” Because the 2018 Tiguan is over 10 inches longer than its 2017 counterpart, which creates enough room for cargo and ensures a comfortable cabin for the passengers.
The LED headlights on the new Tiguan features an adaptive front lightening system which enables the headlights to also move according to the turn of the steering. Not only does it have a LED headlight, the taillights on the new Tiguan are also LED…impressed yet? The new Tiguan also comes with a whole lot of safety features which include forward collision warning, blind spot monitor, rear traffic alert, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, area view camera system, light assist and park pilot.
One of the most impressive things inside the interior design of the new Tiguan is the company’s visual cockpit, a digital cockpit that displays information in such high resolution that you wish you could watch high definition movies on it literally.
There’s also an 8inch touchscreen navigation system which also acts as an entertainment system and allows connectivity with your Android device. The infotainment system can allow the user make and receive calls, text and receive the message and open selected apps and these are all displayed on the Tiguan’s infotainment screen.
The seats on the new Tiguan are all leather stitched with some trims getting a V-Tex leatherette covering which looks like leather but feels way more better. There’s an available panoramic sunroof on some trims also. The cargo space in the new Tiguan is large and can also be made larger by folding down the third-row seats.
Engine and Transmission
This is the only place that Volkswagen didn’t impress. Even though the new Tiguan added some weight to the one on the predecessor, the car was fitted with a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine matching with an eight-speed automatic transmission producing 184 horsepower. This car is very heavy and requires a bigger engine, please. The lack of its engine capacity can be felt when hauling heavy objects.
